This conversation was with my boyfriend while getting dressed to take pictures:

Me: Should I wear this crop top or a ribbed tank?

Boyfriend: Wear the tank.

Me: What makes you say that?

BF: I don’t know? Wear what you want.

Me: So what you’re saying is you don’t think I look good in this crop top?

BF: I didn’t say that.

Me: Then how can you tell me to wear something you haven’t seen me in yet?

BF: Wear the crop top!

We went back and forth with this conversation for awhile. In the end, I let his answer stop me from wearing it. Or did I let my insecurity keep me from wearing it?

He never once said not to wear the crop top, he just suggested wearing the tank top. I will never know why he told me to wear the tank top without seeing how it looked first. He probably doesn’t know why he said it either. Maybe he doesn’t  think crop tops ook good on me but that’s not for me to figure out.

I know he loves me, my mind, my soul, my body, and my style. He encourages me to express myself and wear what I want. He is my biggest fan, and I love him for that. I don’t need him to validate what I am wearing to feel confident in it though.

What I need to figure out, is why I let his comment stop me from wearing the damn crop top when I thought I looked good in it? Maybe I really didn’t think so? Who knows, maybe I was having a moment of insecurity, and his response was an excuse to confirm it?

Although I am very choosy how I style crop tops; I still wear them. Whether it’s with shapewear, the perfect fitting pair of high waisted jeans or a loose fitting duster, kimono, or sweater.

It doesn’t matter how or what you wear to make yourself feel good in your clothing. The important thing is that you are comfortable and confident in it no matter what anyone says.

Have you ever allowed someone’s opinion to stop you from doing or wearing something you wanted? I would love to hear your thoughts/experience.

What are you scared of? This was a question asked by Christina, of ProFresh Style awhile back (like a long while) in her VULNERABILITY PT 2: FAUX REGRETS post.

I fear failure, being stagnant, not taking enough risks (the exact opposite of Christina), having children, and or waiting too long to have them. I fear failure of marriage (when it happens) and starting a family without having the career I want.

I am terrified to fly but even more so of not flying before I turn 30 (it’s true, a 20 something-year-old in the 21st century has never flown). I fear the day I lose one of my parents, especially before major events in my life happen i.e. landing that dream job, having kids, getting married, etcetera!

I refuse to let my fears dictate my life any longer or prevent me from doing what I dream of.

I decided to buy tickets to the Curvy Con in New York, this June. I’m not going to lie; I’m freaking out a little bit, but it’s a good type of freaking! Are you going?

I’ll end this by asking you the same question as Christina, what are you scared of? Do you let it prevent you from pursuing your dreams?

Don’t feel like leaving the house for Valentines day? Here is my how to guide to spending the night (or day) in with your special someone for Valentines day.

-Pick out the girliest dress in your closet
-Grab your sexiest lingerie
-Pull out a pair of sheer pantyhose
-Slip your fresh pedicured feet in your favorite heels
-Have a lot of candy, cakes, and candles
-Bring out the candle holders and candy dishes
-Your preferred choice of beverage
-Pandora’s 90’s R&B station
-Enjoy the company of your special someone
-Maybe an impromptu photo shoot
-Have fun (try not to take yourself or others too seriously)

If you don’t have these things on hand, head to the store to pick up a few things, or be creative and make do with what you have. Everything I am wearing are items that have been in my closet. I picked up a few bags of candy, and Little Debbie Valentine cakes from the store. I baked a few cupcakes and asked my honey to pick up a few roses. Although, if this is Valentines day I will hope the prompting of flowers isn’t needed. But you never know, sometimes they need prompting.

Do you celebrate Valentines Day? If so, what are your plans?

My new mission in life is to refine my personal style and stay relevant at the same time. I am half kidding, half serious. Maybe that is not the most practical goal for a “life mission” but it is what it is.

I rue the day when I look back at pictures 20 years from now and say to myself “what was I wearing”. I am sure it is inevitable, but I will try to avoid it at all costs.

Happy Tuesday!

Came across these photos from our last day in San Francisco! I am ready for another fix, I love that city. I feel like I’m in another world when we are there.

Hopefully Los Angeles is next, if it was closer I would be there all the time. Soon enough, I will make the City of Angeles my permanent residence. I’ve wanted to live in Los Angeles since I was about 10 years old. As long as I am there by 30 I’ll be good! Do you have a “dream” city you would like to live in?

Happy Friday!

There are a lot of people (especially fuller figured women) who are not active in the fashion/blogging world that aren’t aware of all the resources and inspiration available online. I know ordering from the internet can be intimidating, but unfortunately, a lot of retail stores are not as fashion forward in the plus size department as we would like. I understand ordering something online not knowing how it fits can be scary. However, once you find THAT item, it is so worth it. Also, most online stores offer free return shipping, if you’re not sure read the shipping info before placing an order.

This top is a men’s cycling jersey from some random website in China. I could not find anything similar in stores (that fit) or from my “go to” online retailers (listed below). At first I was skeptical to give my credit card number, but I am happy I did. The jacket is exactly what I wanted.

Here is a quick list of blogs and websites I use for inspiration and of course shopping!

My #LBD (little black dress) is not so “little.” In my case, this is more of a “big” black dress. If you google #LittleBlackDress, images of thin (little) women wearing their LBD’s appear. I may have seen one girl that was bigger. I think it would be nice to dedicate a hashtag like #BigBlackDress to use in pictures we take of our black dresses. #BBD has enough different meanings, so that’s out.

I am big, I #CelebrateMySize and #honormycurves with pride. It is an amazingly free feeling to accept the skin you are in. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be a healthier, greater you. Accepting the body you have now is what is most important, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

You can always count on ASOS to acquire the essentials for your wardrobe. Every lady should have at least one #BigBlackDress or (depending on your size) #LittleBlackDress in their closet. Trust me, a black dress can always save you from “I don’t know what to wear” mishaps.

P.S
I newly discovered how beneficial shapewear could be; it gives you that extra boost of confidence, particularly when wearing bodycon fits!

If you are currently not a proud owner of a trench coat, I am here to tell you… “you need to be”. It is an essential piece to have in your wardrobe. Seriously, it goes with everything, dressed up or down! I am so in love with this new trench coat from ASOS CURVE. I never thought I was a “trench girl”, but apparently I am! I have a feeling I will get a lot of looks out of this baby.

P.S
I am sooo ready for new hair. I’m thinking blonder, shorter, sleeker…

Over time, I have noticed that many women are uncomfortable with saying they are sexy or beautiful. Even if they think they are, when it comes to verbalizing it, they act as if its taboo to feel such a way.

Honestly, I believe this originates from females being judgmental of one another (which nine times out of 10, stems from our personal insecurities). I have observed women that are utterly appalled by a woman who proudly and confidently exudes her sexiness. Why do they act as if a woman who is comfortable with her body and sexuality is either fast, a whore, conceited, stuck up or some other god forsaken derogatory statement?

Being a woman myself, I take pride in being, feeling, and embodying all of my beauty and sexiness. I feel blessed to have never felt ugly or ashamed of my size or myself. Of course, I have my moments, but who hasn’t?

Many women, big or small, have problems saying they are beautiful or sexy. I remember watching Oprah interview Kim Kardashian. Oprah asked, “do you think you are beautiful”? I do not recall Kim’s exact answer, but I know it was not yes! It blew me away. I thought to myself “Does she honestly believe she is not beautiful?” Or was that out of fear of being scrutinized for having the audacity to think or further more, say out loud that she is beautiful?

Attention: ALL WOMEN, GIRLS, MEN, and THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE, we are All BEAUTIFUL!! There is nothing wrong with believing in that and SAYING it out loud with pride! SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOP. We should empower and embrace one another and our differences!
Thinking you are greater because of your appearance or social status is what truly makes a person “UGLY.”
