If there is one thing, I know for sure, it’s dressing my body. If you have a visible belly line (VBL) like I do you are probably aware that no matter how good the shapewear is- our stomachs will not magically disappear. There is no reason to feel as if we should hide it. If you want to flaunt it, do it! If you feel like camouflaging it, do it! All that matters is you do what makes YOU feel good.

Having a VBL may require a little more effort in some of the styles we want to wear, but it’s worth it. The best tip I can give you is to learn yourself and your body. Regardless of your body type, learn what makes you feel confident, comfortable, and sexy. Dress for your individual body and authentic style.

Ten Tips For Dressing VBL’s

-Tailoring

-Shapewear

-Posture (good posture will take you further than you may think)

-Proper fitting bra (helps define the waist)

-Quality fabric

-Pleating (I love a good pleat in the tummy area)

-High waisted fitted pants (holds those love handles in perfectly)

-Boxy/loose crop tops (think symmetry)

-Know your angles (this will come in handy for photo op’s)

-Experiment, Experiment, Experiment

TIMES ARE A CHANGIN’

As you may know, Tess (Munster) Holliday was recently signed to Milk Model Management in London, as the first model of her height and size. She is 5’5 and a size 22, this is beyond major!

I would have loved to see a woman of her size in ads when I was a teen shopping for school clothes or daydreaming about being a model.
Unfortunately, media had fooled us into believing that plus size women were unacceptable to be in mainstream media. With the likes of Rebel Wilson, Gabourey Sidibe, and Melissa McCarthy starring in movies and t.v series, they are paving the way and making a significant change in the game. As well as body positive activists Gabi Gregg, Tess Munster, and many others. I am excited to see what this year brings.

What are your thoughts on Tess being signed to a major model agency? I would love to hear your feedback.

XO,
Serena

It is official, in two years I will turn the big 3-0! I am trying to convince myself to look at it from a “fine wine” perspective. Guess I will have to fake it til I make it. Am I the only one having a slight panic attack about this?

On a lighter note, I was happy to spend my twenty-eighth birthday in San Francisco. I love walking  around the city and taking pictures. I finally had the chance to visit  Miette pastry shop, and stopped by Bi-Rite Market for a few groceries. It was pouring rain which I loved but it would stop every time we needed it to. It was perfect! That city takes my breath away every time.

Where do you go when you want to take a quick little trip? Most importantly, what do you wear? I am the worst at over packing. What is in your getaway bag?

Happy New Years Eve! Have fun and stay safe.

SERENA

Came across these photos from our last day in San Francisco! I am ready for another fix, I love that city. I feel like I’m in another world when we are there.

Hopefully Los Angeles is next, if it was closer I would be there all the time. Soon enough, I will make the City of Angeles my permanent residence. I’ve wanted to live in Los Angeles since I was about 10 years old. As long as I am there by 30 I’ll be good! Do you have a “dream” city you would like to live in?

Happy Friday!

There are a lot of people (especially fuller figured women) who are not active in the fashion/blogging world that aren’t aware of all the resources and inspiration available online. I know ordering from the internet can be intimidating, but unfortunately, a lot of retail stores are not as fashion forward in the plus size department as we would like. I understand ordering something online not knowing how it fits can be scary. However, once you find THAT item, it is so worth it. Also, most online stores offer free return shipping, if you’re not sure read the shipping info before placing an order.

This top is a men’s cycling jersey from some random website in China. I could not find anything similar in stores (that fit) or from my “go to” online retailers (listed below). At first I was skeptical to give my credit card number, but I am happy I did. The jacket is exactly what I wanted.

Here is a quick list of blogs and websites I use for inspiration and of course shopping!

Although fall is around the corner, I’ll be dressing for warm weather as long as possible. I wore this to grab brunch with my honey at this  cute restaurant, Two Chicks. I found this linen top from Target’s main range when I was in San Francisco last. I threw it on with a pair of destroyed  denim by Seven7 from lane Bryant and leopard heels for a little sexiness.

Are you doing anything fun for the last days of summer?

Always remember,
You are beautiful!

It would be a fib, if I told you this look was planned. The truth is, this is the result of me throwing on a dress, grabbing a comfy sweater, and running out of the house. The perfect opportunity, for an impromptu photo-shoot. Don’t you think?

Don’t forget to apply lipstick; it is amazing how color on your lips can bring life to a rather washed out face.

This Forever 21 plus size body-con dress is from a few years back. I have worn it as a dress, a top with jeans, and as a pencil skirt. It has surprisingly turned out to be quite a versatile piece in my wardrobe.

Ta-Ta for now…

DOTS, VELVET, AND LEOPARD, OH MY!

DSC_0481
This smoking jacket is one of many wonderful finds I’ve encountered through thrifting. “It’s prit-eey fah-in amazin!” (That’s my English accent, just incase you were wondering).

BUT, get this; the velvet top (also thrifted), is a size L tank-dress in regular sizing. As you can see, it’s a form fitting top on me. After a couple years of sitting in my closet, I decided to wear it with pants from Forever 21. The polka dots on the pants are a similar texture as the velvet top; it was only natural to pair the two.

Moral of the story, thrifting is the bomb; there is quite a bit of unique treasures out there, waiting to be discovered. Be sure to try on as mush as possible, you’ll be surprised what will fit. And, don’t forget to speak in an English accent; it makes the experience more amusing 😉

“San Francisco Treat…ding, ding” <<< This was stuck in my head every time I went to edit this post.

Took a trip earlier this year to San Fran with my honey! Perfect city for a quick romantic get-a-way.
